Cars, Coffee, and Conversation revs up excitement at HCRJ – Jewish Herald-Voice

On a picture-perfect Saturday, Sept. 28, Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism transformed its parking lot into a car enthusiast’s paradise. HCRJ’s Cars, Coffee & Conversation event, sponsored by Mitch’s Motors, drew a crowd of automobile enthusiasts, families and curious visitors to admire an impressive collection of more than 40 classic and modern cars.

Cars from nearly a century of automotive history were featured. Among the standouts was a meticulously restored 1936 Ford convertible, which showcased the elegance and charm of pre-war American automotive design. At the other end of the spectrum was a sleek 2024 Porsche Targa, demonstrating the cutting-edge technology and design of modern-day sports cars.

The crowd enjoyed a presentation by show sponsor Mitch Leben, a paint correction and ceramic-coating specialist and owner of Mitch’s Motors. Leben spoke on the proper way to care for a vehicle after it’s been detailed. Following the presentation was an auto-related raffle and almost every attendee was a winner.

“It was a great array of cars,” said Eric Lipper, as the variety of cars was as diverse as the crowd.

Fans of British engineering enjoyed the Jaguar and MGs on display, while other fans preferred German cars, exuding precision and power, such as Mercedes, Porsche and BMWs.

Italian aficionados were drawn to the stylish Alfa Romeos, Fiats and the 1975 Ferrari 308 Vertroresina that turned heads with its unmistakable red finish.

Not to be outdone, the United States also had a strong representation with muscle cars like the Ford Mustang, the timeless Chevrolet Corvette and the iconic Thunderbird.

Rachel Koenig, a member of HCRJ, expressed her delight with the event. “It was a great day to look at some fantastic cars and spend time with good friends,” she said, capturing the spirit of camaraderie and community that was as much a highlight as the vehicles themselves.

One of the more enthusiastic visitors, power-lawyer Gregg Harrison, couldn’t contain his excitement as he admired the rows of gleaming cars. “I want them all!” he exclaimed, laughing, as he scanned the assortment of dream cars. His friend, Compass real estate advisor David Batagower, quickly responded, “I’ll be happy to find you the perfect new home for all the cars.”

This year’s show set the bar high. Regular event attendee Steve Greenbaum said, “I think you have the best car show in town.”

HCRJ and Mitch’s Motors plan to host a spring 2025 Cars, Coffee & Conversation. To get on the list and be notified of the event, email hcrjcars@gmail.com.
