Web Search for ChatGPT mobile
ChatGPT’s new search functionality represents a significant shift from traditional search engines. ChatGPT now offers web search in the mobile app, at least for Android.
However, the ChatGPT mobile app still lacks the “Web Search” icon. Instead, you will need to hold onto the conversation to get more options. One of them will be Web search.

How does ChatGPT’s Search the Web feature work?
ChatGPT’s mobile app does not explicitly show the Web Search icon. According to OpenAI, it will intelligently switch between regular chat or web search based on user intention. So for tasks like weather report, Stock market data, Sports, Stock market data, etc. it will automatically switch to web search.
While it’s true for ChatGPT desktop app, it may not be applicable for the mobile app. For the mobile app, you can manually select web search by press and holding the answer and select “Search the web” option. See the how to section below.

How to enable SearchGPT in ChatGPT mobile app?
- Make sure to Join the Waitlist for SearchGPT here.
- Launch ChatGPT on your phone and ask it a query.
- Once the ChatGPT answers, press and hold the answer.
- Select “Search the web” option from the drop down menu.
