ChatGPT native app for Windows devices now available

AI-powered services have revolutionized the tech industry in recent years. The ChatGPT chatbot was the origin of the revolution and rapid expansion of artificial intelligence in the consumer market. The advanced capabilities it offered to provide answers to complex questions and requests impressed many. Years later, ChatGPT is finally getting a native app for Windows devices.

OpenAI launches native ChatGPT for Windows app

OpenAI, the team behind ChatGPT, has not had a native app for desktop PCs and laptops as a priority. The company was slow to offer the app for Macs, and now it is the turn of Windows. Android and iOS mobile devices had already received a native app some time ago. It appears that the company viewed mobile devices as a more efficient gateway for users.

ChatGPT’s native app for Windows devices is similar to its Mac counterpart. It offers quick access to most of the service’s features and possibilities. This means you can ask it all kinds of questions and requests, or just have a “chat” for fun, without having to open the website from a browser. Plus, users of the app will have access to the preview of o1, the model focused on “human-level” reasoning.

Like the app for Mac devices, its Windows equivalent lacks the voice command function. However, you can type prompts and complement them with multimedia or text files to get exactly the output you want. You can also easily “invoke” ChatGPT using the ALT + Space shortcut, as if it were a built-in assistant.

Paid users first

The launch of the ChatGPT app for Windows is similar to that of the Mac one. That is, it will initially only be available to subscribers of paid plans such as ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu. In fact, the company labels it as an “early version.” If you meet the requirements, you can download it here. In the coming weeks, it should be available to free users as well.
