NORWICH (WBNG) — The Chenango County Public Transportation announced earlier this week that it is ceasing operations. Now, officials are explaining why.
According to county officials, keeping the current public transportation running would cost taxpayers $1 million.
Chenango County Attorney Zachary Wentworth told 12 News that the decision to end operations is most likely final.
“Unfortunately for us right now, Dec. 31 is going to be the cutoff,” he said. “We extended our old contract three times since June to try and find a solution but haven’t been able to.”
Following the announcement, the county is now looking for volunteer drivers.
