The roundabout at the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Post Boulevard has been under construction for the past several months. It should wrap up before Christmas.
The $4.5 million project is completely rebuilding the traffic structure. The project is being handled by the Colorado Department of Transportation. According to an email from department spokeswoman Austyn Dineen, the finished project will bring the roundabout up to current safety standards, and is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, create better drivability for motorists and improve pedestrian crossings.
The infrastructure work on the project will be finished when the project wraps up for the winter on Dec. 20. When the work wraps up, the roundabout will be fully functional and open for traffic. Landscaping and other minor items will be handled in the spring.
While the roundabout is in the town of Avon, Town Manager Eric Heil in an email wrote that town crews had no involvement in the work. Still, he added, the town has received several comments and complaints about the project.
Heil added that the town is working to finalize the design work for medians and pedestrian crossings at four locations between Post Boulevard and East Beaver Creek Boulevard on Highway 6, so the summer of 2025 is likely to see more construction work and traffic impacts.
