Corning Reveals Why Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Gorilla Armor 2 Outshines Apple’s Ceramic Shield For iPhone – Wccftech

Samsung recently announced its most-anticipated series, the Galaxy S25 lineup, at the Unpacked 2025. While the new flagship phones were the highlight of the event, the company’s top-tier phone, S25 Ultra, seemed to have left quite the mark and immediately became the talk of the town. This was not only for the revamped design it featured but also for being the first to bring the industry-first innovation, which is the Gorilla Armor 2 Glass Ceramic with anti-reflective coating. While Samsung claimed at the event that the glass could survive head-high drops on concrete, Corning recently took it upon itself to further emphasize the properties of the Gorilla Armor 2.

Corning details how Gorilla Armor 2 is unlike any traditional glass and highlights how it stands apart from Apple’s Ceramic Shield

Samsung did make quite the impression during the unveiling of its Galaxy S25 Ultra at the Unpacked 2025, highlighting the Gorilla Armor 2 glass incorporated into the phone, the industry’s first scratch-resistant and anti-reflective glass ceramic specifically designed for the phone. The South Korean tech giant claimed that the glass can endure drops of up to 2.2 meters on concrete. While the claim seemed exaggerated, Corning took it upon itself to explain how the Gorilla Armor 2 is not like the traditional glass via Android Authority.

Corning details that the Gorilla Armor 2 stands apart from the traditional glass as it uses a specially formulated, heat-treated process in order to create crystals that are then embedded within the glass itself. The standard glass, on the other hand, does not have a crystalline structure. The innovative design enhances the material’s durability by improving the mechanical properties and the optical and thermal aspects, making the glass clearer, tougher, and better at resisting heat.

Corning claims that the Gorilla Armor 2 outperformed lithium-aluminosilicate cover glasses with anti-reflective coating during lab testing by having four times the scratch resistance of the competing glass. To emphasize the superiority of the industry-first Gorilla Armor 2’s properties, Corning compared it with Apple’s Ceramic Shield. The company asserted that the anti-reflective coating of the Gorilla Armor 2 not only reduces surface reflections indoors but also does great outdoors. Due to this addition, users can enjoy a seamless viewing experience irrespective of the lighting conditions due to the enhanced contrast ratio.

A comparison is drawn between Gorilla Armor 2 and Apple’s Ceramic Shield, a specialized glass-ceramic material and a leading technology. While both offer durability due to the protective material incorporated, Corning positions Gorilla Armor 2 as superior due to the enhanced offering and the incorporation of the advanced anti-reflective surface treatment that allows for better optical performance and more excellent scratch resistance.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra, featuring the industry’s first Gorilla Armor 2 glass marks, is a leap, and other than the AI features incorporated in the model, this could also be a major selling point of the device.
