Current Backyard has a smart oven that bakes pizzas in 2 minutes

If you love pizza but hate paying for it, then what about trying to make it at home? For the most part, a lot of home ovens can’t cut it. It might not get hot enough or the heating might not be even. This is why if you’re looking for an oven specifically for pizzas, then the Current Backyard Model P Oven could be what the (pizza) doctor ordered!

Pizza in 2 minutes

A lot of pizza restaurants typically have ovens designed specifically for baking pizzas. These industrial-grade ovens are huge and get extremely hot. This is why pizzas cooked in these commercial ovens take only minutes to get done, whereas ovens at home take a considerably longer period of time.

With the Current Backyard Model P Oven, the company claims that it is hot enough where it can bake a Neapolitan-style pizza in just two minutes. That’s incredibly fast! Chances are the time you spend assembling your pizza will probably take longer than it takes to cook. According to Current Backyard, this is thanks to the features built into the Model P Oven.

This includes the ability for the oven to get scorching hot – up to a max temperature of 850F. It also features a 12-inch cordierite cooking stone. You would place your pizza on the stone which in turn encourages more even heat distribution. This results in an evenly-cooked crispy crust, as opposed to the burnt and soggy crusts that you might get with a regular oven.

The even heat distribution is also thanks to the use of top-mounted graphite and under-stone circular calrod elements. It also means that, unlike more traditional pizza ovens, there is no need for users to rotate the pizza while it bakes.

Taking out the guesswork

The Current Backyard Model P Oven isn’t just a regular oven. It is also a smart one. It comes with an accompanying app that features a “Pizza Build Calculator”. This is where the app can help users figure out the optimal time and temperature. This is based on the thickness of the dough along with the quantity of your toppings such as sauce and cheese. Users can also select their preferred doneness if they prefer their pizzas to be extra crispy.

Alternatively, users can select from five different cook modes. This includes Neapolitan, New York, thin crust, and frozen pizza, as well as a broil function. The broil function will give users a bit more control if they want their cheese extra melty, or their crust extra crispy.

At CES 2025, Current Backyard hasn’t confirmed the exact availability of the Model P Oven yet. It will, however, cost $599, and it is expected to arrive around Q2 2025.
