Automaker Volvo Cars plans to halt sales of the China-built S90 sedan in the United States, in light of the escalating trade war between the United States and China. It reports the industry site Automotive News.
The stop is expected to take place before the 2026 model year. Instead, Volvo Cars will try to build the car in its factory in Charleston, USA to avoid tariffs, writes Teknikens Värld in a commentary.
The sales stop is not expected to be a significant blow to Volvo in the US as the S90 was only sold in 1,364 copies in 2024. However, the S90 is an expensive car that contributes to Volvo’s overall profit.
Volvo is halting sales of the S90 to focus on the more popular XC90, XC60 and XC40 models.
