Eddie Vedder, Fiona Apple, Mumford & Sons Cover Neil Young for Bridge School Benefit Album – Rolling Stone

Brandi Carlile, Sharon Van Etten, Courtney Barnett and more also contribute to Heart Of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young

Eddie Vedder, Fiona Apple, Mumford & Sons, and Brandi Carlile are among the artists who will cover Neil Young classics for an upcoming tribute album benefitting the Bridge School.

Sharon Van Etten, Lumineers, Steve Earle, and the Doobie Brothers with Allison Russell also contribute renditions to Heart Of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young, the first volume in a planned two-album series.

Ahead of Volume 1’s April 25th release, Courtney Barnett has shared her take on Young’s Comes a Time standout “Lotta Love,” while Chris Pierce puts his spin on “Southern Man.”

“‘Lotta Love’ is one of my favorite Neil songs, and the lyrics feel especially relevant at this moment in history,” Barnett said of her cover in a statement. “It’s a real honor to be part of this tribute helping to raise funds for The Bridge School.”

Pierce — who has opened for Young on tour — added, “Time and time again, I’m reminded of the power of Neil Young’s songs. I’m reminded every time I spin one of his albums at home, when his songs play on the radio, and this was particularly evident when I recently had the honor of being the opening act for his solo tour.”

The Bridge School was co-founded by Neil’s late ex-wife Pegi to help “individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities through the use of augmentative & alternative means of communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT) applications and through the development.” Young’s annual Bridge School concerts were held from 1986 to 2016.

Heart Of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young is available to preorder on vinyl now, with the second volume “to be announced soon.”
