Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy M15 as the latest member of its lineup of affordable mid-rangers with massive batteries. Now, the South Korean giant is preparing for the arrival of its successor, and we bring you its first detailed renders in an exclusive leak. Here, you will find the design of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy M16 5G in all three colorways, leaving little to nothing to the imagination.
This year, Samsung has set out to improve the design of its cheaper phones. We already saw that with the clean look and slim profile of the Galaxy A16 5G. Our exclusive renders show that the firm will follow this trend in the “Galaxy M” devices as well. The Galaxy M15, launched in March, has a practical and functional design, but it screams “cheap” from all four sides. However, things are changing noticeably with the Galaxy M16 5G.
The Samsung Galaxy M16 5G will bring a more modern and elegant design
Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy M16 5G features sharper borders on its flat sides. While Samsung has already incorporated a flat frame on the Galaxy M15, it still has a slight curvature at the edges, which gives it an “outdated” look for modern design trends. Our exclusive renders show that the next-gen model will ditch this in favor of a look a bit more similar to Samsung’s main mid-range and flagship phones.
Interestingly, the company is opting for a less minimalist approach to the camera module design. In recent Galaxy phones, they have opted for a rear camera setup without a module surrounding the sensors. Instead, the sensors are placed individually, resulting in a rather clean and sober look. However, the Galaxy M16 5G will have three rear camera sensors arranged vertically with an “island” surrounding them. Will this be the first step toward a new design language for upcoming affordable phones from Samsung? Only time will tell.
The left side of the Galaxy M16 5G includes a SIM card slot, while the power and volume control buttons, as well as a fingerprint reader, are on the right side. It’s curious that Samsung continues to use a side-mounted fingerprint reader on phones with AMOLED displays. Anyway, this approach also has its advantages, such as greater accuracy when reading the fingerprint.
The budget nature of the device is evident when looking at its front. Our exclusive renders of the Galaxy M16 5G show that Samsung hasn’t put much effort into reducing its “chin” aka bottom bezel. The other bezels, while noticeably smaller, aren’t especially thin either. Lastly, Samsung will keep an Infinity-U notch for the front camera sensor, something that was ditched on the Galaxy A16.
Some leaked tech specs
As for specs, don’t expect a powerhouse on the Galaxy M16 5G. Its recent appearance on Geekbench confirmed that it runs on the same Dimensity 6300 chip as the Galaxy A16. The spotted model had 8GB of RAM, although there will likely be more variants at launch. Sadly, the phone’s software will be outdated upon launch, as it will come pre-installed with Android 14.
