Yesterday, I saw a tweet where someone said the Google Pixel is the face of Android and not Samsung, but I disagree with that. For years on end now, when people think of Android smartphones, Samsung Galaxy phones come to mind first (though the Pixel lineup is doing a good job of becoming a household name).
It’s the fact that Samsung is established as the poster child for Android that makes it rather disappointing when they stick to their guns on certain things. We know how fast the upcoming Galaxy S25 and S25+ are going to charge, and as you might have predicted, everything stays the same.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 And S25+ Have Had Their Charging Speeds Confirmed; The Same As Always
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year, following up on the success of the Galaxy S24 series. We expect a lot of great things from the upcoming phones, even if we know that nothing much will change in the design department.
We’ve heard about the Galaxy S25 Ultra and how it is expected to come with 45W charging, which is the maximum that Samsung offers on any of its devices. Now, thanks to information picked up from a Chinese certification authority, we’ve gotten info on the charging speeds we can expect from the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+, and unfortunately, things remain the same.
The Samsung Galaxy S25+ will share a 45W charging speed with the S25 Ultra, which in SamsungLand, is as good as it gets. However, the vanilla S25 will only be getting 25W wired charging, and quite honestly, for a full-blown flagship in 2025, that’s quite a miserable speed to deal with. This basically means that the charging speeds for the entire upcoming lineup stay exactly the same as the current ones.
Even If You Excuse 45W Charging, It’s A Lot Harder To Excuse 25W In 2025
I had a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ before my current device, and that was the very first phone from Samsung to come with 45W charging. That device was released back in 2019 and from then until now, Samsung’s maximum charging speed hasn’t left that spot. That’s despite major competitors going north of 100W on a pretty regular basis.
I’m generally not sure why a lot of manufacturers with a big footprint in North America tend to stay away from faster charging speeds — Samsung, Google, and Apple. If there’s something I’m not realizing, let me know in the comments. Either way, there are many manufacturers that sell prominently in the US, like Motorola and OnePlus, which embrace much faster charging.
Here’s the thing though: even if I’m ready to let 45W charging slide and say that it is “fast enough”, I certainly can’t say the same thing for 25W charging. There’s no reason why you should pay as much as you will for a Samsung Galaxy S25 and only get 25W charging speeds. The same applies to Samsung’s foldables for this year. At the very least, they should make 45W charging the standard on flagships. That’s my stance, anyway.
