Fire breaks out at auto recycling yard in Franklinton, firefighters ask drivers to avoid U – WRAL News

A large fire broke out Wednesday in Franklin County.

According to Franklin County Emergency Services, the fire started as a vehicle fire at Capital Auto Recycling in Franklinton along US-1.

Franklin County Emergency Services posted smoke from the fire on their Facebook page.

Authorities are advising drivers to avoid US-1 completely while they combat the fire.

“We have a county-wide tanker task force in the works. This means we will have multiple firetrucks and equipment coming from all across the county to assist with water supply,” said the Franklin County Firefighters Association.

As of 10:24 p.m., the fire is 95% contained. The NC Forestry told WRAL News they created a fire line to protect the wooded area behind the facility.

It is unclear how long the drivers are being asked to avoid the highway while firefighters work to put out the fire.
