First foldable iPhone's screen sizes revealed in new leak

Apple is one of the leading brands in the smartphone industry. However, while others have already launched several generations of foldable phones, Apple has yet to enter the segment. There has been speculation for some time about the iPhone Fold (tentative name). Now, a leak suggests that a key design aspect of the first foldable iPhone could draw inspiration from the Pixel Fold.

According to reports, Apple’s first foldable phone will adopt a book-like form factor, like the Galaxy Z Fold series. However, while Samsung is betting on an elongated external screen, the Cupertino giant could opt for a smaller but wider external screen.

The first foldable iPhone’s external screen form factor could be inspired by the Pixel Fold

Digital Chat Station, a reliable leaker, shared on Weibo that the first foldable iPhone will feature an external screen of around 5.49 inches. The tipster compares this screen to that of the OPPO Find N, adding that it will be “shorter and fatter.” As for the foldable internal display, the source says it will be 7.74 inches in size. The final product could seek to make the device feel “like an iPad” when unfolded.

The post also mentions that the “ratio of inner and outer screens is indeed unprecedented.” So, the company may be betting on a form factor not seen in existing foldable phones. Will Apple implement completely square screens in its first foldable device? We will have to wait to find out.

For reference, the first OPPO Find N had a 5.49-inch external screen. Meanwhile, its external screen reached 7.1 inches. Regarding the original Pixel Fold, the device arrived with a 5.8-inch external screen. Meanwhile, its foldable internal screen was 7.6 inches. The latest Galaxy Z Fold 6 uses a more elongated 6.3-inch external screen. Plus, its internal folding display extends to 7.6 inches.

The particular form factor of the first foldable iPhone could make it quite compact when folded. However, we’re dealing with early information, so there are no details on its dimensions, thickness, or weight. Hopefully, more details will emerge in the coming weeks.
