First look at Android 16-based One UI 8 shows Samsung is playing it safe

Summary: The very first look at Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8.0 skin has just landed, thanks to a bunch of leaked images. This build, expectedly, won’t deliver many UI changes, that’s what One UI 7.0 was for.

Samsung has started to roll out Android 15-based One UI 7.0 to a handful of phones earlier this month. That rollout was halted globally quite recently, as a bug was discovered. Even though One UI 7.0 is the talk of the town these days, One UI 8.0 is knocking on the door.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 7 were both spotted with One UI 8.0 build. Those details did not show us the UI itself, though. Well, now is the time for that, One UI 8.0 has surfaced, giving us the very first look at the UI. This build will be based on Android 16, of course.

Take a first look at One UI 8.0 thanks to a bunch of leaked images

The leak comes from SmartPrix, and it shows us that Samsung will be playing it safe with One UI 8.0. That was to be expected as One UI 7.0 did bring a much-needed UI refresh.

If you check out the images in the gallery below, you’ll see One UI 8.0 itself, which in this case runs on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The source says that Samsung will base this version on optimization, more than UI changes and features. Once again, One UI 7.0 brought a ton of those.

In the gallery below this paragraph, you can see a comparison between some UI elements from One UI 7.0, with those in One UI 8.0. These two examples are showing My Files and Gallery applications from Samsung’s Galaxy devices.

You’ll notice that the icons will remain pretty much the same, but some sizing tweaks will take place. The actionable squares in the My Files app will be smaller, for example. The different background drop in the Gallery app (for pop-up windows), will disappear.

This build will also bring a change for the ‘Now Brief’ feature

One UI 8.0 will also bring one notable change for ‘Now Brief’ feature. It will no longer be exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series once this update drops. Do note that the final One UI 8.0 build may look a bit different than what you can see here, this could be an early build.
