Ford coupe that had starring role in an iconic Blur video can now be yours for a bargain price

A FABULOUS Ford coupe that once starred in a music video for Blur can be bought for a bargain price.

The first generation Ford Granada, which was produced by the famous car marque from 1972 until 1977, was once a strong seller in the UK and was loved for its space, comfort and driving experience.

But slightly younger petrolheads may recognise the motor from its appearance in the music video for Blur‘s hit single Parklife – released in 1994.

The song’s video sees the band’s lead singer, Damon Albarn, and iconic actor Phil Daniels, who partly sings vocals on the track, drive a bronze-coloured Mk1 Ford Granada Coupe.

In one scene, the Granada pulls up next to an Audi as Daniels makes reference to the German brand’s ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ slogan, as both cars pull away to reveal ‘Parklife’ written on the tarmac.

Today, the Granada is seldom seen on UK roads, with just 649 models currently in existence with a valid MOT, according to How Rare Is My Car.

The classic motor, which was made available as a four-door saloon, a five-door estate, and a two-door fastback coupe, was a favourite among taxi drivers and the police, while even limousine and hearse versions were made available.

The rare 3.0-litre version, with its meaty V6 engine, was only available to buy in both the UK and South Africa at the time of its release.

However, we found an incredible 1975 example, known as the rare ‘Golden Edition’ that was originally supplied in South Africa, for just £8,500 on the Cars & Classic auction website.

This hard-to-find set of wheels, which is example no. 29, was imported and UK registered in 2018 and has since had many improvements, according to the listing.

These include a new electronic ignition, viper coil and engine service.

The listing confidently added that the car “runs and drives superbly with smooth gearbox and no untoward noises”.

Ford’s ‘most powerful production car ever’ coming soon with 202mph top speed

The Granada nameplate ran from 1972 through to 1994, before it was discontinued and replaced by the Ford Scorpio.

This comes as a legendary fast Ford is set to be reborn with an ultra-lightweight bodywork and a famous engine from long-forgotten brand.

The one-off motor will pay a special homage to one of the Blue Oval’s most famous machines – some 40-odd years since it last graced UK showrooms.

Ford also recently revealed they will be releasing their “most powerful production car ever” with a sports car that can produce a shocking 804bhp.

The 5.2-litre supercharged motor is even preparing to take on the the current-gen Porsche 911 GT3 RS with a timed lap around an iconic circuit.
