Full specs and design of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE revealed

Earlier this year, ASUS officially brought its latest gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 9, to the US. According to the rumors, the company is working on a less powerful (hopefully more affordable) FE variant. Now a new report from 91mobiles has revealed the design and specs of the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE.

Slightly less powerful

According to the publication’s industry sources, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE will come with a 6.78-inch FHD+ Flexible AMOLED LTPO display made by Samsung. It boasts a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, but gamers can push it further to 185Hz in Game Genie mode. The display’s brightness tops out at 2,500 nits and 1,600 nits in High Brightness Mode. It also uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for extra durability.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset powers the ROG Phone 9 FE. It has 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For context, the ROG Phone 9 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite, so the FE variant is one generation behind. Also, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro is offered in a 1TB configuration with 24GB of RAM.

In terms of cameras, the ROG Phone 9 FE includes a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. On the front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera. For the most part, this is similar to the base ROG Phone 9, but the Pro model has an additional 32MP telephoto camera.

In terms of battery, the ROG Phone 9 FE features a 5,500mAh battery with support for 65W wired charging. This is slightly smaller than the 5,800mAh battery in the ROG Phone 9 and Pro models.

Similar design

In terms of design, the ROG Phone 9 FE doesn’t look too different from the regular ROG Phone 9 models. The camera module looks identical. The only difference we can tell is the LED matrix display on the back of the phone. The base ROG Phone 9 has an 85 dots matrix display while the Pro model has a 648 dots display.

This allows it to show off more information and designs. We can’t tell how many dots the ROG Phone 9 FE has but it doesn’t look quite as comprehensive as the ROG Phone 9 Pro. However, apart from the difference in the matrix LED display, the FE model will come with AirTriggers to help give gamers a more console-like gaming experience.

The ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro was one of the best gaming phones of 2024. Based on the specs and design of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE, it should deliver a similar experience. Granted, it uses a slightly older chipset and has a smaller battery. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is still a very formidable chipset and should have no problems handling whatever gamers throw at it.
