Galaxy S22 series now receiving the December 2024 security patch

The December 2024 security update continues to make its way to Samsung mobile devices, and now it’s the turn of the Galaxy S22 series. The patch is the prelude before the highly anticipated rollout of One UI 7 to all eligible phones. Meanwhile, Samsung is making your phone more secure by fixing multiple potentially exploitable vulnerabilities.

The December 2024 security update arrives for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series

All models in the Galaxy S22 lineup are receiving the December 2024 security update under the same build number S90xBXXSDEXKA. This includes the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. Let’s remember that Samsung did not release an FE variant for its 2022 generation of flagship mobile devices.

So far, the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy A54 have also received the latest security patch. This update primarily focuses on addressing software and hardware vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices. The South Korean giant is reserving the new features for One UI 7.

The company listed up to 48 fixed vulnerabilities, with 34 contributed by Google for One UI’s Android core (28 of “High” severity and six of “Critical” severity). On the other hand, Samsung Mobile resolved vulnerabilities that affected some of its own features, such as ThemeCenter, Dex, and Galaxy Watch Bluetooth connectivity. Even Samsung Semiconductors contributed a couple of fixes for vulnerabilities related to Exynos hardware.

As usual, you should receive a notification once the update is available for your device. However, you can always try a manual check under Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. If your phone does not find any available update, do not worry, as it will only be a matter of waiting a few days.

One UI 7 will also arrive for the Galaxy S22 series eventually

Fortunately, the Galaxy S22 series is also eligible to receive the One UI 7 update. However, being old phones, even access to the beta program could take some time to arrive. Anyway, at least users of these devices will enjoy this big update for Galaxy devices sooner or later.
