Samsung started sending out the January 2025 security patch for the Galaxy S24 series a little more than a week ago. Given the proximity of the Unpacked event—January 22—where the Galaxy S25 series and One UI 7 will be revealed, it seemed to be the last OTA before the rollout of Samsung’s Android 15-based update. However, surprisingly, the Galaxy S24 lineup is getting a second January 2025 update.
Galaxy S24 devices receive a second January 2025 update
Just like the previous January update, the latest one is totally focused on tweaking things under the hood in One UI. There are no new features or anything like that, and in fact there are fewer official details. The first OTA had already implemented Google’s January 2025 security patch for the Android core. It also brought several fixes to vulnerabilities in Samsung’s hardware and software.
As reported by Tarun Vats on X/Twitter, the update for Galaxy S24 devices is 376.82 MB in size. They are receiving it with build number S92xNKSS4AXL3, first in South Korea. More eligible Galaxy phones and regions are likely to start getting it in the coming days as well.
One UI 7 stable for Galaxy S24 phones could arrive in March
The source isn’t very hopeful that One UI 7 stable will be released soon for the Galaxy S24. Vats had previously said that the update might take longer to arrive than many believe. More specifically, owners of Samsung’s previous-gen flagship phones might receive it between late February and early March. Currently, One UI 7 beta for Galaxy S24 phones has received three updates. The beta 4 update is still missing, for which there is no date yet.
On the other hand, those interested in the Galaxy S25 series will not have to worry. These phones will ship with Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box. Is Samsung using the “temporary exclusivity” of One UI 7 as a selling point for its next-gen mobile flagships? Only time will tell. In the past few years, the company has been one of the fastest to update its previous flagship devices to the latest Android versions.
