The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could end up featuring an under-display camera. Well, at least if a tipster is to believed. A tipster that goes under the name ‘kro’ said as much via X.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could end up using an under-display camera
To be more accurate he said the following: “In the Galaxy S26 Ultra display prototype, the camera hole is not visible.” That tells us that at least one of the phone’s prototypes has an under-display camera.
Samsung has been rocking under-display cameras in its ‘Galaxy Z Fold’ series for years now, on the main display. That camera is still noticeable from specific angles if you really look for it, but it’s a far cry from a hole punch.
Many OEMs have avoided using under-display cameras thus far due to their quality. Under-display cameras are always behind regular cameras in terms of image quality. Many users would be willing to sacrifice that just to ditch the hole punch, though.
Using that camera would certainly decrease the quality of your selfies
Yes, the image quality has been getting better over the years, but it still cannot compete. It remains to be seen if Samsung is ready to pull the trigger on its flagship smartphone next year, or is this just something the company is considering.
On the one hand, it would certainly be a tradeoff. On the other, it would enable Samsung to offer a stunning design to its users, basically. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has immensely thin bezels, and it sure is a looker. Imagine if it didn’t have a display camera hole on top of that.
The RedMagic 10 Pro is one of the phones that uses an under-display camera and very thin bezels. That phone is a sight to behold, so… Samsung may end up going down that route, we’ll see.
Who knows, maybe the company figured out how to increase the image quality from an under-display camera, only time will tell. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is not expected to arrive until early 2026.
