Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter has launched its newly designed transportation page, making it an easier experience for visitors to access and find information on the best and most convenient ways to travel downtown.

In the past, the website promoted parking garages and various ways of parking, but now it has expanded and features all forms of transportation, including bike routes, public transit, trolleys, ride-share services, parking facilities, and locations of parking meters with pricing.

The goal of this upgrade is to promote awareness about alternative transit, according to the Gaslamp Quarter Association‘s executive director Michael Trimble.

“[To] change people’s perception that the only way to get downtown is to drive,” Trimble said. “There’s so many ways to get people around San Diego.”

In the future, Gaslamp wants to add more information to the page, including more neighborhood maps, so people have increased access and personalized forms of navigation.

“It’s taking the planning and giving it to the people,” Trimble said.

Vibe Map, a company that “reimagines city exploration,” has created interactive, customizable maps, and Trimble wanted to implement that idea in San Diego transportation.

“They [Vibe Map] created a very specific map in regards to transportation options,” Trimble said. “We want to make it a great way for people to get someplace safe without having to drive their car.”

“We wanted a place where people could go if they’re coming to San Diego from outside the city, whether they’re using the trolley, bus, ride-share, or bicycle,” he said. “We tried to use the mobility platform to teach people about alternative ways to get downtown.”

In celebration of the launch, the Gaslamp Quarter released a video on Sept. 1, “Gaslamp: It All Starts With How You Get Here,” highlighting the diverse and convenient ways to reach the area.
