Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (Experimental) is back on the Gemini app

Summary: Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (Experimental) mysteriously disappeared from the Gemini app last Saturday. We’re not sure why this happened, but it is now back.

Google has numerous AI models available… like a lot! You can access several of them as a free Gemini user. Right now, we’re entering the Gemini 2.5 era of models, but that’s not to say that Google has forgotten about its 2.0 models. You can still access Gemini 2.0 Flash.

For some reason, over the weekend, people lost access to Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (Experimental) in the Gemini app. It seemed like it only disappeared for the Android and iOS versions of the app, but not for the web version. It’d be tempting to think that Google has moved on and decommissioned the model.

However, that seems unlikely. There are three models that free users can use, and they’re all optimized for certain use cases. So, we don’t think that Google would just get rid of one without telling its users.

Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (Experimental) disappeared, but it’s now back

People went onto the app to find the model gone, but it looks like it’s back. We still didn’t get an explanation as to why it was MIA, but it probably wasn’t really worth explaining. Maybe there was a software bug. Either that or the company temporarily made it unavailable for maintenance.

If you’re curious about this model, it’s all in the name. This Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (Experimental) is a little older, as it’s from the Gemini 2.0 series, but it’s still extremely powerful. The name “Flash Thinking” is a bit of an oxymoron, as it’s a reasoning model. This means that it takes a bit more time with its response. However, the”Flash” in the name means that the model prioritizes speed over raw power. You’d use it if you want your responses to be quicker.

So, it’s a super smart and super quick model that can deliver speedy and in-depth responses. That should make your mouth water if you’re into powerful AI.
