We’re so used to Gemini being a staple in Google’s ecosystem of services that we sometimes forget that the service is available for iPhones. While it’s not as deeply integrated as on your Android phone, it can still be useful on its iOS-powered brethren. According to a new report, Gemini now has a set of new lockscreen widgets for iOS.
This news should come as no surprise that Google is doing this. It’s not been shy about bringing Gemini over to Apple’s camp. The company’s plan is to provide AI for everyone, and keeping it exclusive to Android users would be a poor way of showing that.
Gemini has new lockscreen widgets on iOS
One thing that iPhone users enjoy is the lockscreen widget function. Instead of unlocking the phone, users can access different actions right from their lock screen. Several apps support this feature, and Gemini is the next one to do so.
Google didn’t just add one widget, but it added six. The first widget lets you enter a Simple Text Prompt. The second widget opens the Microphone function so you can talk right to Gemini. Next, the third widget opens the Talk Live feature, so you’ll be able to have a live conversation with Gemini.
Fourth in line, the next widget opens the Camera which will let you take a photo of something and ask Gemini questions about it. The fifth widget will let you Share An Image to Gemini from your gallery. Lastly, the sixth widget will let you Share a General file with Gemini.
With all of these widgets. Gemini functionality is not more than a few taps away. If you want to go all out with Gemini, you can assign all of them to your lock screen. You can assign four widgets under the clock and two as the widgets at the bottom left and right corner.
This is a great move on Google’s part, as it shows that Android and iOS can shake hands. We know about the seething rivalry between the platforms. However, tech that can benefit the user experience shouldn’t be held on one platform.
