Google extends Gemini extensions over to Samsung apps
We all know that Samsung and Google have a special relationship. Their close partnership manifests itself in many ways, and we’re reminded of that at every Unpacked event. This time around, we know that Samsung has opened its apps to Gemini. This means that Gemini is now a more integral part of the Galaxy experience. You can summon Gemini using the dedicated side button. That’s pretty huge, as that honor was previously reserved for Bixby.
Along with that, we also got the news that Gemini can now communicate with Samsung apps through extensions. To refresh your memory, extensions allow Gemini to communicate with other apps and services. This way, it can perform actions within those services. For example, with the Google Home Extension, Gemini can control your smart home devices.
Now, there are Gemini extensions for Samsung Calendar, Samsung Reminder, Samsung Clock, and Samsung Notes. This means that you can ask Gemini to set an alarm for you, create a calendar event, take down a note, and all sorts of actions without needing to rely on Google’s own ecosystem of services. While many people use Google’s apps, there are those who live in Samsung’s ecosystem of apps.
For the time being, it looks like these extensions are exclusive to the Galaxy S25 phones. That makes sense, as the company is releasing the phone with exclusive features to entice people to buy it. As time goes on, we know that Samsung will trickle these features down to older Galaxy devices.
