Google has announced that Google Lens is getting an AI-powered update to help users when they are shopping in-store. The new feature arrived after the company infused AI in Google Shopping last month. The company is now bringing the same AI magic to make Google Lens your in-store shopping friend.
Google Lens will now help you decide what to buy in-store
The new feature will provide users with more information about products when purchasing in physical stores. The users in the US can capture a photo of any item on the store shelves to get detailed information. The new feature will show customer reviews, stock, and price comparisons for online and other physical stores. Notably, it will also show if similar products are available in the same store.
According to Google, the new Google Lens functionality has been developed using “major advancements in our AI image recognition technology”. Without saying, this feature requires users to share their location data to deliver relevant information. This feature can recognize which physical store you are shopping inside, only if you share your location in the Google app.
The new feature currently offers information on limited products
The new Google Lens in-store shopping guide feature only provides information about select product categories. These include beauty products, toys, and consumer electronics items. So if you are purchasing a product from one of the aforementioned categories, then just take a photo and Google Lens will deliver more information about it. The new feature is currently only available in the US for both Android and iOS device users. However, if the testing is successful, it will be available in more regions in the coming weeks.
Notably, Google released a similar AI-powered shopping feature to maps earlier this month. The new functionality provides users with real-time product inventories from select stores. The company continues to enhance the shopping experience of users by infusing artificial intelligence into its products from time to time.
