Google Pixel 5a gets a surprising new update

Google when launched Pixel 5a promised that the device would get three years of Android updates and security patches until August 2024. However, a few reports are now hinting that the company has reportedly pushed the November 2024 security patch as the final update for the Google Pixel 5a.

Google rolls out the final update as a surprise for the Pixel 5a

The three-year-old Pixel A-series phone was a handy option when it debuted back in 2021. In fact, it still ranks at the top when it comes to display size among all the Pixel A-series phones. When Google rolled out the August 2024 update, everyone thought it was the final one for the Pixel 5a.

As expected, the company didn’t push the September and October updates for the device. However, a Reddit post from yesterday suggests that Pixel 5a users are getting a new security update with version number AP2A.240805.005.S4.

Interestingly, the above build is reportedly still based on the August 2024 security patch, but now carries a November build date. Google neither published a changelog for this build nor did it mention it in the November 2024 security patch announcement. But, we know now what the update brings to Pxiel 5a, courtesy of a Reddit user (@justarandomkitten).

The update reportedly brings a few fixes and stability improvements

The user has detailed the bug fixes and stability improvements Google pushed with this update. The final update for the Pixel 5a fixes the issues with adaptive brightness and screen timeout settings. In addition, there’s a mention of a fix addressing an issue related to media players.

That’s not all, the update also includes a stability fix for the Bluetooth routing issue. It seems Google has started a new trend of pushing one final update for Pixel phones after they reach end-of-life. If you are still using the Pixel 5a, you should know that the phone won’t be updated to Android 15.
