Google seems to be gearing up to launch its latest mid-range phone.
According to Android Headlines, pre-orders for the Pixel 9a will begin on 19 March 2025, with shipping and availability in stores expected on 26 March. This would mark a change from previous launches, which have taken around the Google I/O event in May.
The same report suggests that the Pixel 9a will maintain the same starting price as its predecessor, the Pixel 8a, at $499 for the 128GB model in the US. However, the 256GB variant might see a slight increase and be priced at $599.
The UK pricing hasn’t been included, but we expect it to be £499 for the 128GB model and £599 for the 256GB variant if the US ones prove true.

In terms of specifications, Android Headlines reports that the phone will feature a 6.28-inch OLED display with a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. Under the hood, it’s expected to house Google’s Tensor G4 processor, the same one found in the Pixel 9 series, alongside 8GB of RAM.
While the camera setup may include a 48Mp main sensor and a 13Mp ultrawide lens, the phone could be powered by a substantial 5,100mAh battery, marking the largest battery capacity in a Pixel device to date.
Notably, the Pixel 9a is expected to depart from the traditional camera bar design, opting instead for a flush back. This design change is supposedly to accommodate the larger battery while maintaining a sleek profile.
The device is projected to be slightly wider and taller than the Pixel 8a, with dimensions of 154.7 x 73.3 x 8.9mm and a weight of approximately 185.9g.
The phone is also expected to be available in four colour options: Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony.

This earlier-than-usual release aligns with Google’s recent strategy of advancing its product launch timelines.
The Pixel 9 series, for instance, was launched in August 2024, moving up from the typical October schedule. This shift suggests Google’s intent to capture market attention ahead of its competitors.
As the launch date approaches, we expect to learn more about the Pixel 9a in the coming weeks. In the meantime, read more about the upcoming Pixel 10 series, expected later this year.
