Google is streamlining the Gemini Live app by adding simpler pause and resume chat controls directly to the persistent notification. Users could soon be able to hold, continue, and end a conversation with AI quickly.
Conversation controls for Gemini Live have limited controls outside app
Google has been actively infusing its Gemini Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) within multiple platforms. After improving Files by Google, Google seems to be allowing viewers to ask follow-up questions for YouTube videos using Gemini.
The Gemini Live platform for Android is quite versatile and can work in the background. If users hide the app in the background, the Android OS keeps the app’s icon at the top of the device’s display, in the status bar. Additionally, there’s a persistent notification informing users that the device’s mic is on and Gemini is listening.
Currently, there is a single action button that lets users “End Live mode”. However, to perform any other actions, users have to tap the notification and bring the app to the foreground. Google seems to be tweaking and streamlining the notification of Gemini Live to make this process simpler.
Google to streamline Gemini Live notification, helping users quickly resume chats
An APK teardown by Android Authority has revealed that Google is streamlining the notification for Gemini Live. This should help users quickly pause and resume conversations with the Gen AI platform.
In the Google app version 15.46.36.sa.ARM64, the notification for Gemini Live has new buttons. Instead of “End Live mode”, Google has added a button users can press to hold or continue the chat. Additionally, a red button on the left, titled “Hang up” seems to have replaced the “End Live mode” button.
Interestingly, Google seems to have removed the Gemini icon from the status bar. Instead, there’s an icon that indicates there’s a call in progress with a timer. Simply put, Google appears to have made the notification more versatile and improved the status bar icon. It is not clear if or when Google will roll out an update with these new features.
