Google TV gets a major update, and yes, there's AI

Google is rolling out a big update to Google TV right before the launch of the new Google TV Streamer. The latest update comes with a bunch of new features that will elevate the viewing and smart home experience. It is worth noting that the new features will be available to all Google TV devices including the new Google TV Streamer.

Google TV receives a major update ahead of the launch of its new streaming device

The latest update to Google TV brings a new home panel that acts as a smart home control center. You can find it in the Quick Settings within the Google TV interface. There’s a new doorbell notification feature that allows you to check who is at your door without leaving your couch. Besides, if you can’t find the remote to control your smart home devices, Google Assistant voice commands will ease your headache.

For all the sports fans, there’s a new sports page in the “For You” tab within Google TV. This is where you will see all the sports content like live and upcoming matches, highlights of the game, sports commentary, etc. On top of that, you can also check out customized recommendations based on your interests.

Google adds a few AI capabilities as well

The latest update to Google TV also brings some handy AI features. It includes the ability to create AI screensaver artwork using different prompts. Additionally, the “Overviews” feature in Google TV will now be powered by Gemini to provide summaries of top shows, and movies, season-by-season breakdowns alongside audience reviews.

Moving on, the latest update also revamps the channel guide in the Google Freeplay app. For the uninitiated, it is a dedicated app that has at least 150 free channels to watch. With the new design, you will be able to search your favorite channel based on genre and topic.

Google further says that Google TV is expanding to a wide range of devices including art TVs from Hisense and TCL, as well as projectors from Epson, Vankyo, and XGIMI. Besides, the company is trying to make Google TV available to other regions including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
