While Google TV is available in several regions across multiple TVs and devices, US users enjoy an extra benefit. They have access to an extensive list of free channels through the Freeplay app. This year, the brand has been significantly expanding the list of free channels available. Now, Google TV is getting even more new free channels, including some with Christmas-focused content.
If you’re not aware, the Google TV Freeplay app is available in the US completely free of charge. It includes a set of dozens of ad-supported channels across multiple topics. Originally, the app hit the market with a list of around 80 free channels available. However, after the latest additions—and even one removal—there are 170 channels.
Google TV’s list of free channels grows to 170, including new holiday content
The list of new free channels that Google TV Freeplay has received in recent weeks includes Designated Survivor, Places & Spaces – The Great Christmas Light Fight, Best of Dr Phil, Xumo Free Holiday Movie Channel, Xumo Free Holiday Classics, Xumo Christian Christmas, Continuum, Z Nation, The Design Network, Filmrise: Classic TV, UFC, Unbeaten, Big 12 Studios, Waypoint TV, PursuitUP
The company also added three Stingray channels focused entirely on Christmas music to help set the mood for the holidays: Stingray Greatest Holiday Hits, Stingray Soul Storm Christmas, and Stingray Hot Country Christmas. Interestingly, Google removed the “Motortrend Fast TV” channel focused on cars.
Some channels could disappear after Christmas
Some of the new channels mentioned above may be “seasonal.” That is, they might be available only during certain periods or special dates. In this case, we are referring to Christmas-themed channels. It wouldn’t make sense to make them available all year round, though, since they’re focused on such specific content.
That said, Google TV Freeplay has been receiving dozens of new free channels constantly this year. It’s possible that the company will continue this pace of expansion throughout 2025. In addition to the 170 free channels available on Freeplay, Google’s streaming-focused platform boasts around 1,100 free channels available on third-party apps like Plex, PlutoTV, and others.
