Google TV is announcing some pretty cool additions to the platform at CES 2025. The company is demoing how Gemini works with Google Assistant on the big screen. These features will be available on Google TV devices beginning in 2025 and will bring a Gemini-enhanced voice experience while using far-field microphones and proximity sensors to make interacting with your TV more conversational and helpful.
Now with Gemini included with Google Assistant, you can use natural language and have a conversation with your Google TV without having to say “Hey Google” after each query. You can also get responses that are supplemented with YouTube Videos, and this is because you are asking through the TV, and Gemini knows that watching a video is better than giving a long answer here.
Google is also bringing AI-generated art screensavers to Google TV, thanks to Gemini. Think of this as similar to what the AI-generated wallpapers are, on Pixel already. And finally, you can search for media and through your Google Photos with conversational queries, like “What are the latest movies on Max?” Using the far-field microphones that most TVs have these days, you can interact with your TV without the remote.
Google TV is getting an on-screen hub that knows when you’re in the room
Using the proximity sensors in most newer TVs, Google TV is going to be able to show you an on-screen hub that appears when the TV senses that you’ve come into the room. It can automatically pull up information like the weather, a news brief with stories you may be interested in, and your morning commute.
And when you walk out of the room, the TV knows instantly and will go into the screensaver mode, and then turn off within seconds.
When it comes to the smart home, that integration is here too. So you can do routines, or give commands, and if someone rings your Nest Doorbell, it’ll automatically pop up on the TV and let you see who’s at the door. This all works together to really bring the Google ecosystem together quite nicely.
