Google has been actively adding new features to Google Wallet, making it even more useful. In December last year, the company allowed users to add their US passports to the app. Now, Google has announced that now you can let your kids make in-store purchases and use Google Wallet’s tap-to-pay feature on Android.
Parents can allow their kids to make digital payments using Google Wallet on Android
It’s not that we haven’t heard about Google Wallet for kids. A report from last year hinted that Google was working on this feature. Earlier this year, the company also confirmed that it would roll out the support. Now that the support has been officially announced, you must be wondering how the whole thing would work, right?
As expected, the company is allowing kids to use Google Wallet under the supervision of their guardians or parents, and rightly so. You can control your kids’ access to Google Wallet and the tap-to-pay feature via the Family Link app.
Every time your kids make a payment via tap-to-pay or Google Wallet, you’ll receive emails. You’ll also be able to track all the purchases made by your child. That’s not all; you can even remove payment cards or block your kids from accessing Google Wallet.
It’s important to note that kids will only be able to add payment cards with parental consent. Also, they won’t be able to use those cards to purchase anything online. However, kids will be able to make in-store purchases.
The feature will be limited to some countries for now
The upcoming feature will also allow kids to store event tickets, library cards, and gift cards within the Google Wallet app. Google says it will start rolling out the feature over the next few weeks, and it will be available first in the US, UK, Australia, Spain, and Poland.
For the uninitiated, this isn’t the first time Google has added support for kids to make digital payments. Last year, the company added support for GoHenry and GreenLight’s debit cards, enabling parents to add suitable payment methods to their kids’ Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatch.
