Google Wallet is getting new features & expanding to more countries

Google Wallet is one of the company’s most useful and widely used services. Recently, the app has gained support for local driver’s licenses in the United States. Now, Google has announced five major Wallet-related updates, including three new features.

Google Wallet native and web app available in more countries

Starting with the announcements, the Google Wallet app is now available in more countries. The app is now accessible to users in Cambodia, El Salvador, Guernsey, Kosovo, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, and Tajikistan. Additionally, the web app, previously only available in the United States and the United Kingdom, is getting support for 28 countries.

The list of new countries supported by the Wallet web app includes Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

New features for Google Wallet

As for new features, Google Wallet is now able to automatically detect and capture train tickets you receive in Gmail. The service was already able to do this with loyalty cards, movie tickets, and boarding passes. Now, you’ll be able to easily view your train tickets on the app without having to manually add them. The new feature is quite convenient for those who use the train on a daily basis.

The other new features are related to the Wallet app for Wear OS. Now, the smartwatch app supports grouped passes, pass archiving, and unscannable passes. That means you’ll be able to archive passes directly from your wrist instead of relying exclusively on the phone app. Additionally, unscannable passes will appear on your smartwatch. Lastly, grouped passes will “appear together” and display a carousel of passes when you tap on them, according to Google.

Google is certainly working hard to make Wallet the ideal hub for all your cards, IDs, and passes. Last month, the service also received support for digitizing physical documents in the United States, including those that are not natively supported.
