Google started using its own custom chips in the Pixel line-up of devices when it launched the Pixel 6 series. The Tensor series of chipsets have seen their ups and downs since Google started using them. However, the Pixel owners aren’t quite satisfied by the performance of the Tensor chipsets on their Pixels. One of the biggest complaints of Pixel owners with their devices is the battery life. However, Google will address all of these complaints with the upcoming Tensor G6 processor.
Google will reportedly fix all the biggest complaints of Pixel owners using the upcoming chipset
Google is currently working on the Tensor G5 and Tensor G6 custom chips, which will power the Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 series phones, respectively. A report by Android Authority suggests that the Tensor G6 chipset could be a downgrade. However, it will fix all the biggest complaints of Pixel owners using this chip. A number of issues have plagued the Pixel phones. These allegedly include overheating, poor battery life, etc. However, the next-gen chipsets will take care of things like these.
The source has obtained major documents from Google’s gChips division. They have viewed these documents, which describe the specs as well as the motivation behind the design of the upcoming Tensor G6 chip.
Tensor G6 chip will focus on reducing the price, apart from making it run cooler and more efficiently
Furthermore, the report suggests that Google’s Tensor G6 will focus on reducing the price of the chip. Google’s previous “Tensor-based Pixel programs have not met its financial targets”. Google’s target with the Tensor G6 is to reduce the SoC’s price by nearly $65 to make the business viable. While the new chip will be a downgrade, it will be run much cooler and more efficiently. This means that there will be fewer issues on the Pixel phones like overheating and poor battery life.
Even the most recent Pixel 9 series of phones are also plagued by these problems. The Tensor G6 will allegedly deliver improvements in power efficiency and thermal departments, thanks to the new TSMC manufacturing process. The GPU of the Tensor G6 will lose its ray-tracing abilities, but the CPU will get a slight upgrade in the aforementioned departments. However, the specs don’t tell us much about what you can expect in terms of performance. We will know more about these things in the coming months as the Tensor G6 isn’t coming before next year or 2026.
