Google’s NotebookLM gets the ability to generate Mind Maps

Google has rolled out a couple of new important features for the NotebookLM service, which provide newer ways of interacting with the AI platform. As announced last week, the search titan’s NotebookLM has received the ability to generate Mind Maps. The new feature brings a fresh way of interacting with notes and source materials. Furthermore, Google is also allowing users to change the output language of the AI notebook chatbot.

NotebookLM’s Mind Map feature lets you visualize ideas

Google says that the new interactive Mind Map in NotebookLM allows you to navigate complex topics in your notebooks. Apart from exploring new connections, you can gain a deeper understanding of your materials. It will transform the key concepts from your sources into an interactive visual map.

Mind Map is available alongside the shortcuts for Add note and Audio Overview in the Chat pane. After you open any notebook, click on the Mind Map option, and an interactive Mind Map will appear within seconds, ready for you to explore. All the Mind Maps you create in NotebookLM appear in the Notes list. It has a full-screen user interface, where you can tap a brand to minimize it and interact with the chat.

As Google explains, “a biology student working on their thesis about Coral Reef Ecosystem Decline might upload research papers and see a mind map of ‘Ocean Acidification’, ‘Rising Sea Temperatures’, ‘Pollution’, and ‘Overfishing’.”

Once NotebookLM creates a Mind Map, the tool stores it in the Studio tab. You’ll need an internet connection each time to access it on another device. Also, you can print out the Mind Maps, which will come in handy if you’re a student. That said, Google has started rolling out the Mind Map feature to all NotebookLM users.

NotebookLM also gets an output language selector feature

The Gemini 2.0 model-powered NotebookLM productivity tool is also getting another new functionality. This lets you select the language of the output. You can access it from the settings menu that’s located at the top right corner. This option lets you choose your output language within NotebookLM for “study guides, briefing documents, and chat responses.”

User reports indicate that the output language selector feature isn’t available to every NotebookLM user yet.
