Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold might repeat the Pixel 9’s biggest mistake

Amongst the details of the other Pixel 10 series cameras, we kind of glossed over the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. And that’s because it’s boasting almost the same cameras as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Meaning, it’ll still lack the “Pro” cameras of the other Pixel 10 models.

According to the report from Android Authority, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will sport the Samsung GN8 as its primary camera. This is a 50-megapixel, 1/1.95″ sensor. Android Authority also believes this might be cropped, similar to the main sensor on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The rest of the cameras are the exact same, with the Sasmung 3J1 being used for ultrawide and telephoto, and the Samsung 3K1 for the selfie cameras on each display.

My biggest complaint with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the cameras. For the price we’re paying, we should see something better than an 11-megapixel 5x telephoto lens. Though, we do know that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will cost less than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. So that might make it an easier pill to swallow, but those sensors shouldn’t exist on flagship phones in 2025.

Google’s rumored custom ISP could make or break these cameras

Google is rumored to be using its own custom ISP this year in the Tensor G5. That’s really the first step for Google to bring along a fully customized processor to Pixel. Given all the expertise that Google has on photography, since the very first Pixel, this could be a really big deal. We could see some impressive processing from Google. But we could also see some really bad results.

This would be Google’s first ISP, and that means it might end up not being as good as expected. We all remember the amount of bugs the Pixel 6 series had, which was the first to launch with a Tensor chipset. We’re hoping that won’t be the case with Tensor G5 – which is also manufactured by TSMC this time, instead of Samsung – but we do have to keep that in the back of our mind.
