Govt official relieved of duty over Facebook post on Sheikh Mujib – The Daily Star

‘Bangabandhu declared independence,’ Sarail AC (Land) wrote in the post

An assistant commissioner of Sarail upazila has been relieved of her duties after a Facebook post from her account said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the one who declared Bangladesh’s independence.

Sirajum Munira Kaysan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sarail upazila administration, wrote the post today, referring to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as “Bangabandhu.”

However, about 45 minutes later, the controversial post was deleted, and another post was made claiming that the account had been hacked.

Following the original post, there was widespread reaction across Sarail upazila. When she attended the Independence Day parade at Annada High School ground in Sarail Sadar, there were protests from local BNP leaders and activists. Subsequently, she had to leave the school field.

Sarail Upazila BNP General Secretary Nuruzzaman Laskar Topu said, “The AC Land of Sarail is a supporter of fascists. Now that her true character has been exposed, she is pretending that her Facebook account was hacked. Action must be taken against her.”

Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mosharraf Hossain said, “The AC Land has claimed that she did not write the post. Several officials had access to the password of that account. The deputy commissioner (DC) has decided to relieve her of her duty and place her on leave for the time being.”

Brahmanbaria DC Mohammad Didarul Alam said, “An investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.”
