Hate Price Hikes? Doesn’t Matter, Verizon Is Sending One Your Way

Digital products aren’t like Costco’s hot dog—they can’t keep their prices steady for 5 years, talk less of 40. Unfortunately, if you use any digital product or service that you have to pay for on a periodic basis, you know as well as anyone that prices will go up at some point. However, at a point, the hikes get too frequent.

Today, the subject of this is Verizon. It’s one of the big three carriers in the United States, so it isn’t surprising that profits are a major part of its motivations. If you’re one of the myPlan customers who have more than five lines, perhaps for the whole household, you’re about to see $3 per line added to your bill.

Verizon Is Going to Be Lowering Its Multi-Line Discount for Some MyPlan Subscribers

There you were, on your own, enjoying the perks of subscribing your whole family to Verizon’s myPlan service—you’d get a discount when subscribing at least five lines to the service on a single account. That was certainly a good way to save some extra money and still keep the entire household connected. Unfortunately, that sweet deal is going to get a lot less sweet.

Verizon has made it official that by February 20th, it is going to be reducing the discounts it offers for Verizon myPlan customers with five or more lines by $3. That means each line on the account is going to be $3 more expensive, which means at least $15 is being added to your monthly bill. If you have a lot more lines than five, then you’re going to be seeing a larger increment on each month’s bill.

Sure, this particular price hike won’t affect most since the average customer doesn’t have five Verizon lines to worry about. That means it might end up going under the radar for most, but it is only a matter of time before a hike comes that affects the majority.

That’s Not All; Verizon Is Also Increasing Prices on Its New Verizon Plan

The New Verizon Plan is one of the carrier’s legacy plans. You can’t subscribe to it any longer, but if you were on it before, you can still stick around. However, it seems that those who were quietly enjoying that legacy plan are in Verizon’s crosshairs (not the first time), and they’ll be seeing even more significant price hikes—according to Verizon, due to “rising operational costs”.

The New Verizon Plan came in different sizes, and yes, sizes quite literally—S, M, L, XL, and XXL. It doesn’t matter which one you were on though, as all of them are being hit with the carrier’s new price hike, whether you have one line or twenty.

For those with a single line, you’ll be seeing a $4 increase in the access fee on your bill each month. Those with multiple lines will have to deal with a much higher $15 price hike. Ouch. Oh, and the charge for data overage for each GB has increased from $15 to $20. This Verizon price hike will also take effect on February 20th, so you’ve got time to find an alternative before then.
