I’ve had a Google Pixel before, and I loved it so much. The software experience on those devices is amazing and the cameras just work—no need to bother yourself too much after pressing the shutter button. However, for many people, the mainline Pixel devices are too expensive, and that’s why it is great that the tech giant introduced its “a”-series.
The Google Pixel 9 family came out in the second half of last year, and as it always goes, its first release of 2025 will be the “a” model for its latest lineup. The Google Pixel 9a is coming soon, so before that, here’s a look at every single colorway for the upcoming phone, as well as a detailed look at its design.
The Google Pixel 9a Will Come in Four Safe Color Options
Google isn’t the most daring company when it comes to the colors that it paints its phones with. For the Google Pixel 9a, that remains the case. According to Android Headlines, there are four color options for the upcoming midrange smartphone. Two of them will be neutral colors—Obsidian (black) and Porcelain (off-white). I reckon those will be the most popular of the bunch since they’re generally less polarizing.
However, for those who like their phones to pop more, Google will also offer the Pixel 9a in Peony (pink) and Iris (light blue) color options. I like the look of Iris, but I don’t think I’d opt for it, personally. They’re definitely not bad colors, and they fit well into the “pastel” coloring scheme that the company has basically established as its own at this point.
The Google Pixel 9a Brings a New Look to Google Smartphones
The Google Pixel 9a doesn’t adopt the same design language as the Pixel 9 series. Instead, it goes for something that I actually consider to be cleaner.
Instead of a protruding camera visor, the device aims for an almost flat back panel. The camera section protrudes very minimally—it doesn’t look like enough height for the device to rock on a table. The position of the dual camera is roughly identical to where it was on the Pixel 8a, just without the visor detail.
There’s a satin metallic finish on the flat frame, and the screen is completely flat, too, with a punch-hole selfie camera. It’s a cleaner design, albeit a lot less distinctive.
The Biggest Pixel Battery Ever Arrives on March 19th
The Google Pixel 9a is very close to launch. We know that it is going to be announced on March 19th, which is roughly a month and a week away. What’s nice is that we know quite a bit about its specifications ahead of launch.
It’s going to be 8.9mm thick, which doesn’t make it a brick, but for reference, that’s thicker than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, that change is to accommodate a much larger battery. In fact, at 5,100mAh, the Pixel 9a will have the biggest battery that Google has ever put into one of its smartphones. Charging speeds will stick to 23W when wired and 7.5W wirelessly, though.
The device is going to start at $499 for the 128GB model. Double the storage will add 256GB to that pricing.
