KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Three people were taken to the hospital early Saturday morning after they were involved in an early-morning crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Around 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 21, a 19-year-old in a 1999 Jeep Wrangler was headed north on I-29. Just as he approached NW 72nd Street in Platte Woods, he was hit from behind, sending his car spinning into the left lane.
MSHP said two other cars, a 2010 Honda Fit and a 2025 car with an unidentified make, tried to avoid hitting the Jeep but were unable to. The car that is accused of causing the wreck kept driving without stopping while the other three came to a rest.
The 19-year-old driving the Jeep was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time and suffered minor injuries. His passenger, another 19-year-old from Parkville, was also wearing her seatbelt but she was seriously injured. Both were taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the Honda Fit, a 19-year-old from Kansas City, had no reported injuries. She was able to drive her car from the scene.
A third person, a 58-year-old man from Atlanta, Georgia, driving the 2025 vehicle, had suspected minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital. His car was reportedly totaled and towed.
The identity of the hit-and-run driver is unclear. The make and model of their vehicle was not recorded.
