HONOR announced some insane AI at Snapdragon Summit

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit is going on today, and we’re all eager to see what the company has planned. Of course, we’re going to hear about the latest Snapdragon chip, but there’s a bunch more being announced. For instance, HONOR just announced some new and innovative AI during the Snapdragon Summit.

HONOR has come a long way in the past decade. We all remember it as the Huawei sub-brand pumping out affordable phones. Now, the company is pushing smartphone tech forward and really making a name for itself. It’s attending the Snapdragon Summit with some exciting announcements about its upcoming HONOR Magic 7.

HONOR announces some incredible AI at the Snapdragon Summit

It should come as no surprise that AI is the center of this tech event; it’s been the center of just about every tech event since 2023. HONOR isn’t rocking the boat on this one. The company announced that its upcoming HONOR Magic 7 will use the newly unveiled Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. So, it’s going to use one of the most powerful chips on that market. This chip will go on to power many of the flagship phones coming at the end of this year and next year as well.

On-device AI agent: First of its kind

At first, companies raced to build a better chatbot, but the winds have shifted. Now, companies are working on bringing full AI-powered agents that can perform tasks on your device like interacting with apps. For example, Motorola recently unveiled that it’s working on a new LAM that could bring an agent that will order your coffee for you or grab an Uber for you.

Well, it looks like HONOR might beat everyone to the punch with this one. It announced that it will bring the first AI agent for an open ecosystem. Coming in MagicOS 9 on the HONOR Magic 7 series is YOYO Assistant. This is an on-device assistant much like Google Gemini or Siri. What will make this assistant different is its list of impressive capabilities. According to the company, aside from what we see today with AI assistants, YOYO Assistant will be able to perform actions within apps on behalf of the user.

With a simple text prompt, you can have the assistant order a coffee for you. There’s an example image below of the ordering process. Just know that this could just be a mock-up, so the actual process could look different. The company said that the AI could learn from your orders in order to tell your preferences. However, it mentioned that it will only do this “with consent”. So, you’ll have to opt-in to this service most likely, which is a good thing.

Along with that, HONOR also mentioned that you’ll also be able to use the agent to cancel unwanted subscriptions. This shows a high level of artificial intelligence and, if it can pull this off properly, it will put Gemini and Siri to shame. The jury is out on what services it will be able to order coffee from and cancel.

AI for gaming

Gaming is another industry set to be revolutionized by AI. HONOR announced a tech that will use the chip’s NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to help render the graphics in a game. The graphics are typically rendered using the GPU, but HONOR’s method will take the load off of the GPU. This will increase device performance while decreasing device temperatures when gaming.

MagicRing

Rounding out the announcement, HONOR unveiled a new technology called MagicRing. This is a service that makes multi-device AI much more seamless. HONOR makes different types of devices including phones, tablets, and computers. Well, the company will have AI services across these devices.

It gave the example of using the Cocreator image generator on HONOR computers running the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the HONOR MagicPad 2. Also, you’re able to use the AI Eraser tool (introduced on the HONOR Magic V3) on the MagicBook Art 14.

HONOR is setting out to establish the next standard in on-device, and these new services might be the thing to do it.
