The Honor Magic 7 series was one of those, bringing a flagship phone that essentially nailed every single aspect of the spec sheet—not dissimilar from the other phones that launched that month.
At that time, Honor only showed off the Magic 7 and the Magic 7 Pro, but before long, there were enough whispers indicating the existence of a Magic 7 Lite, which would be a midranger with a lot of the same DNA as the more expensive devices. Now, that phone is finally official, and it is pretty solid.
The Honor Magic 7 Lite Gets Its European Launch, With A Notable Camera And Battery
No one would say no when it comes to more power in a smartphone, but not everyone needs the highest level of performance, especially when it comes at a higher price. For those who are perfectly satisfied with midrangers, Honor’s newly-announced Magic 7 Lite is made for you.
The Design
The Honor Magic 7 Lite doesn’t borrow too much from the Magic 7 and its Pro model. Sure, a keen eye might be able to tell that they’re from the same family, but the Magic 7 Lite is decidedly less premium in appearance. That’s a product of its much lower price tag. Despite that, it doesn’t look too bad, sporting an aluminum frame, a slightly curved glass back, and a simple circular camera module.
The device is available in a Titanium Black and a Titanium Purple colorway, with the latter certainly being the more eye-catching of the two. It manages IP64 water resistance, a weight of 189 grams, and a 7.98mm thickness. Honor also boasts about its “Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Technology 2.0”, which supposedly gives the phone drop resistance from two meters—an industry-leading number.
The Screen
The display on the Honor Magic 7 Lite is nothing particularly groundbreaking. It’s got a curved AMOLED display on the left and right sides, with a 6.78-inch diagonal. The maximum resolution is 2,700 x 1,224 pixels, with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 4,000-nit peak brightness for HDR content. It also has 3,840Hz PWM dimming. For a midranger, that’s a perfectly fine display—it’s not about to knock your socks off, and that’s okay.
The Internal Hardware
Now, inside the Magic 7 Lite, things are exactly as you might expect. The midrange Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is the chip of choice, which is perfect for those who won’t be putting their devices through anything too demanding. The only model that will be offered in Europe will have 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which for a midranger, is a solid configuration.
You’ll also be getting the usual suspects: NFC, an IR blaster, Bluetooth 5.1, and an optical fingerprint reader under the screen.
The Battery And Charging
The battery department is one place where the Honor Magic 7 Lite shines pretty brightly. You’re getting a massive 6,600mAh battery, which paired with the midrange chip in the pilot’s seat, should probably offer two-day battery life. It definitely doesn’t hurt that it has 66W fast charging either. There’s no wireless charging, though that shouldn’t be a big surprise.
The Cameras
Now, the primary camera on this phone is another thing that might deserve to catch your attention. Honor decided to go big, with a 108MP sensor with OIS being the choice for this device’s camera. It supports 4K/30 video recording, which is enough for its market segment.
There’s a second camera on the back of the phone—despite the design giving the illusion of three—but it’s merely a 5MP ultrawide, which feels a bit lackluster next to a 108MP unit. On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie shooter in the pill-shaped cutout.
The Pricing And Availability
In the United Kingdom, the Honor Magic 7 Lite will go for £399, which is a price that’s hard to hate considering what the company manages to deliver. It is expected in more European countries, though only the UK pricing info is public at the moment.
