The HONOR Magic V4 is coming later this year, and it will utilize Qualcomm’s most powerful chip. We’re talking about the Snapdragon 8 Elite here, not its 7-core version or anything like that.
The HONOR Magic V4 foldable will use Qualcomm’s most powerful chip
This information actually comes from HONOR’s executive. To be exact, it comes from Li Kun, the General Manager of HONOR’s Flagship Smartphone Product line.
He confirmed the information when a tipster asked him if the HONOR Magic V4 will use a 7-core processor. He was referring to the 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite. Li Kun said that the phone will use a “full-blooded” chipset. He’s obviously referring to the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
As a reminder, the Snapdragon 8 Elite does come in a 7-core version for thinner devices. It’s less powerful than its 8-core variant, but not by that much. It has one less performance core, which is removed in favor of better cooling and heat dissipation.
That chip performs admirably in the OPPO Find N5, the world’s thinnest foldable. So, even if HONOR ended up using a 7-core variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, chances are not many people would complain about it.
The device could even launch sooner than expected
The HONOR Magic V4 could actually arrive sooner than expected. Based on a rumor from Fixed Focus Digital, from earlier this month, it could launch in either May or early June in China. The global launch will probably occur during IFA, as it did for its predecessors.
As a reminder, the HONOR Magic V3 was initially launched in July. So that’s why we’re saying it could arrive sooner than expected, presuming that the tipster’s information is accurate, of course.
It remains to be seen what kind of improvements will HONOR deliver. We would like to see further camera improvements, as the phone is already plenty thin and light. HONOR will likely be looking to improve things in that area too, though.
