At the end of the summer, Google started rolling out a new feature they call Personalisation in Play.
What this means is that you’ll get personalised recommendations for games and apps that are tailored to your usage. You’ll also get what Google calls “relevant offers”, which is another way of saying advertising.
However, you can choose to decide how this personalisation works. Here’s how you do it:
- Go to play.google.com and log in as usual. You can also open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone
- Tap your round profile icon in the top right corner and select Personalisation in Play
- Click Play personalisation and history to expand that section
- Under Web and App Activity, you can tap the drop-down menu next to On. From here, you can either just turn off the activity, or delete all your previous activity at the same time

Once disabled, Google won’t collect any of your activity while using its apps and services, including location data. As a result, the ads you get as a result of that data will be more generic and not tailored to you.
