HOUSTON, Texas — Mets owner Steve Cohen spent $374 million to start 0-1. Now the league’s most expensive roster must respond. New York will play Game 2 of its season-opening series against the Houston Astros today at 8:10 p.m. Eastern.
The March 28 game will be broadcast on Apple TV+ as part of the service’s “Friday Night Baseball” double-header. Fans can also watch the Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mets enter this 2025 season with massive expectations after last season’s playoff run, plus the offseason addition of outfielder Juan Soto. Soto signed a 15-year, $765 million contract with New York this offseason. Only championships will fulfill his paycheck.
Meanwhile, Houston enters 2025 following its most disappointing finish in several years. The Astros made seven consecutive trips to the League Championship Series before losing in the Wild Card round last season. And they lost third baseman Alex Bregman to the Red Sox during the offseason.
The Astros will start right-handed pitcher Hunter Brown on Friday. Brown went 11-9 with a 3.46 ERA last season.
Right-hander Tyler Megill will pitch for New York. He finished 2024 with a 4.04 ERA in 78 innings pitched.
