HP is buying the Humane AI platform

Humane has announced that HP is buying its AI platform. The company will immediately discontinue the sales of its $499 AI Pins. Humane has also alerted its consumers who have already bought the Pin that their products will stop working before the end of February.

HP is buying the Humane AI platform for $116 million

HP is buying the Humane AI platform in a deal worth $116 million. Humane’s first and only hardware device, the Humane AI Pin, will stop working from 12 PM PST on February 28, 2025, as per the company’s support forum post. HP has purchased Humane’s intellectual property for the aforementioned amount. It appears that HP doesn’t have any interest in Humane’s current hardware business.

According to HP, the acquisition will bring Humane’s “engineers, architects, and product innovators” to a new team dubbed HP IQ. The company describes it as an “AI innovation lab focused on building an intelligent ecosystem across HP’s product and services for the future of work”. HP’s buyout of Humane is much lower than what it expected in June last year when it was seeking a $1 billion buyout after only selling around 10,000 AI Pin devices.

“First and foremost, thank you for being an early adopter of Ai Pin. Your support, feedback, and enthusiasm have been instrumental in shaping this technology, and we are truly grateful to have had you on this journey with us. We are writing to inform you that, effective immediately, we are winding down the consumer Ai Pin as our business priorities have shifted”, Humane said in a blog post.

Humane has advised this to existing AI Pin users

Effective immediately, the company will discontinue new sales of the consumer Humane AI Pin. The existing devices will continue to work until February 28, but they will no longer connect to Humane’s servers. Your AI Pin features will no longer include calling, messaging, AI results, or cloud access, the company mentioned in the blog post.

Furthermore, the company has advised the AI Pin users to synchronize their devices over Wi-Fi and download any stored photos, videos, and notes from the Center before February 28. If you do not do this, the system will permanently delete your Humane Pin AI data on the same day.

HP is going to acquire some of Humane’s technology, including its CosmOS AI operating system. HP could use this tech to integrate artificial intelligence features into its computers and printers. We will know more in the coming days, so stay tuned for regular updates.
