The wearable market isn’t just about Apple and Samsung, a few more players are doing better. Huawei is one such name that has surpassed Apple and secured the top spot in the global wrist-worn wearable shipment for the first three quarters of 2024. The latest result is based on the “Global Wearable Device Market Quarterly Tracking Report” published by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Huawei passes Apple to secure top spot in the global wrist-worn wearable shipments
The IDC’s report reveals the top five tech giants that have shipped the most wrist-worn wearables globally in the first three quarters of this year. Huawei has topped this list with the highest annual growth and market share. Talking in numbers, Huawei made shipments of 23.6 million units of wrist-worn wearables in the last three quarters.
The company’s smartwatch shipment bumped up by 7.3 million units, an impressive 44.3% boost from last year. In addition, the brand has also secured a 16.9% market share. IDC’s report credits the launch of the Huawei GT5 series and WATCH D2 (Review) for the growth. The report also suggests that Huawei received more attention in various markets like Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East.
On the other hand, Apple has secured the second spot with 22.5 million shipments and a 16.2% market share. It should be noted that the Cupertino tech giant is seeing a decline of 12.8% in annual growth rate. Xiaomi, Samsung, and BBK are the other brands that made it onto IDC’s top five list.
It seems smartwatches are getting less popular

Meanwhile, Samsung ranks fourth with 11.5 million wearable shipments with a 24.3% year-over-year growth rate. It has also grabbed a market share of 8.3% for the last three quarters this year.
The IDC report also suggests that the smartwatch segment is becoming less popular among customers. Per the report, the makers shipped a total of 112.2 million units of smartwatches globally in the first three quarters of 2024, down by 3.8% from last year. Whereas, the wristband market saw a growth of 12.7% with 26.8 million units shipped in the same period.
