Hurricane Milton Relief: Google Fi Sending Out $25 Line Credit

Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene have wreaked havoc across some parts of the east coast of the United States, causing tens of billions of dollars in property damage and even resulting in some casualties. The hurricane has impacted millions of people in the US.

People impacted by the hurricane are undoubtedly going through a lot of struggle and it is immensely important at such a time to be able to remain connected to loved ones, emergency services, and others. To play its part, some users have reported receiving a $25 credit from Google Fi Wireless as relief during this hurricane season.

Hurricane Milton is the fifth most intense Atlantic hurricane ever recorded, and the most intense in nearly 20 years. Needless to say, the devastation was on a very wide scale. People who have just been impacted by a natural disaster hardly have the time to worry about paying phone bills when they’re struggling with a lot worse. Fortunately, in times like this, relief and aid efforts are in overdrive.

Even a company like Google is playing a part. For its subscribers on Google Fi Wireless, the company is automatically applying a $25 credit to their lines. This helps them stay connected despite everything that’s going on around them and saves them one thing to worry about. In moments such as these, there’s nothing more reassuring than reliably being able to stay in touch with friends and family.

The report comes from several Redditors and the credit is being applied based on zip codes that were affected by the hurricane. While I did spot a few people claiming that Google could have done better with the credit, I think it is hard to deny that for most people, it will certainly go a long way.

The Credit Seems To Be Applied Per Line And Not Per Account

Google didn’t make this explicit, but looking at all the reports from people on Reddit, something has been made clear. This hurricane relief credit is not being applied per account, but seemingly per line, and that’s certainly a good thing.

One account can have more than one line on it, so if you happen to have 3 or 4 lines on a single account, this system prevents everyone from needing to fight over a single $25 credit. Instead, each line will get its own.

Admittedly, that system makes the most sense, as each person with a phone in such a crisis has equal expectations of wanting to stay connected with people or use their phone to locate resources for help.

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t released a list of the zip codes which were determined to be affected by the recent hurricane season. However, subscribers in many areas in Florida, as well as Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina have gotten an email informing them of the credit. For now, that’s what we have to go on.

Other carriers have been offering tips on how to stay connected during this hard time and it is nice that despite being an MVNO, Google Fi is playing a role too.
