A PETROLHEAD has revealed how he managed to breathe new life into his BMW with a brand spanking new infotainment system – all on a tight budget.
Michael Terry had always dreamed of owning a BMW M240i – but when he finally picked up the hot set of wheels, he was less than impressed with its out-dated iDrive system.
Terry, who was determined to modernise his motor, decided to swap out the old iDrive and replace it with a sleek, portable smart player he bought from Temu.
Better yet, he says he was able to save around £1,000 in the process.
Terry, who also fronts a YouTube channel called TheOtherStuff, said: “At first, I thought if you’re going to put tech in a BMW, it has to be top-tier.
“But I don’t have millions in the bank account. I needed something that could bring the car into the modern age without blowing the budget.”
At first, he considered the high-tech BMW OEM Retrofit Sat Nav – but he was put off by its high price of £1,095, and decided instead to opt for a more budget-friendly option.
On Temu, he found an option priced at just £182, which he purchased and installed himself—saving money on the installation as well.
Terry added: “The head unit looks really nice. Can’t believe a £182 head unit looks like this in a BMW.
“For £182, Temu has done wonders this time. It feels like a completely different car now.”
He also praised the settings available on the new system.
“The good thing about this new system is that I can actually go back to the old iDrive system, which is amazing because I can look at all the services and not lose any important information,” Michael said.
And he added: “I’m really happy with how everything turned out.
“For a fraction of the cost, Temu made my dream car feel modern again. It’s everything I wanted and more.”
He isn’t the only car enthusiast to spruce up their ride with the help of Temu.
Recently, another car nut known as Hood Stig completely transformed a beaten-up hatchback into a head-turner – thanks to some bargain buys.
He picked up an Audi RS4 for the bargain price of £3,500 at a car auction, before pimping it out with a selection of budget-friendly parts from online megastore Temu.
