Insta360 announced today its second-generation Flow smartphone gimbal. Bringing Apple DockKit support, the new gimbal expands on its predecessor, with more AI-driven features to produce professional-level videos with just your phone.
Insta360, an action and 360 camera company, is back with its second-gen smartphone camera, purpose-built for the iPhone. Unlike other smartphone gimbals that require you to find the perfect balance of the phone to start filming, the Flow 2 Pro can get you started in seconds.
Featuring a MagSafe phone mount, simply hover the phone over the handle for DockKit to connect and configure the iPhone and gimbal to work together perfectly. Snapping the phone onto the arm using the MagSafe mount means the phone is already perfectly balanced.
Drops non-pro varient
When Insta360 dropped the original Flow gimbal, it came with both a Pro and non-Pro variant; this time around, it sounds like the Pro will be its only one.
Coming in at $159, it lines up similarly with the competition, DJI Osmo Mobile 6, in price but might outshine it in features.
Deep AI integration
2023 and 2024 were the years of AI, and that doesn’t seem to be stopping. Nearly every feature of the Flow 2 Pro is being enhanced with AI, whether or not you think it needs it.
the Flow 2 Pro introduces Deep Track 4.0, the company’s AI-powered tracking system that is available exclusively in the Insta360 app. This is what the company claims is the best tracking system for a phone. The Flow 2 Pro also supports native tracking in Apple’s built-in camera app and supported third-party apps as well.
The Flow 2 Pro attempts to track multiple subjects at once to ensure that all the action, not just the subject, is in frame. It uses AI to adapt to whatever you’re shooting, making sure you can keep up with what is going on around you.
Finally, the Flow 2 Pro features the Pro Framing Grid tool, also available only in the Insta360 app, which ensures the golden ratio can be followed for every shot.
Remote controls using another phone or Apple Watch
Building in more integration with Apple products, you can even remotely control the gimbal using only your watch. From fixing the framing and changing settings to starting and stopping recordings, you can set your gimbal up using the built-in tripod and control it hands-free.
The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro is available now on the company’s website, B&H, or through Amazon. The standard bundle comes in at $159, while the creative bundle is priced at $189, which includes extra accessories like a detachable spotlight, MagSafe iPhone mount, and an extra USB-C charging cable.
