Instagram is rolling out the ability to schedule direct messages (DMs) to all users. According to TechCrunch (via Lindsey Gamble), the Meta-owned platform has introduced the feature globally, and you can now schedule messages. This is super useful for creators, brands, and regular users who want to plan their communication.
Instagram’s scheduled DMs let you plan ahead
You can now schedule messages by holding down the send button. This will open a menu where you can select the date and time you want your message to be sent. Instagram allows scheduling up to 29 days in advance.
It is noteworthy that Scheduled messages only support text-based messages. You can’t schedule media like photos, videos, or GIFs which still need to be sent in real-time. Instagram also shows a banner in the chat to notify you of the number of scheduled messages. Tapping on the banner and holding down the message provides options to delete it or send it immediately. These features make it easier to manage your planned messages.
Instagram wants to make messaging better for everyone
Instagram wants to improve its messaging features and make it easier for its users. The scheduling feature allows creators and brands to reach their audience at the best times. Brands can now schedule outreach or reminders for promotions, events, or announcements. For regular users, this is helpful for sending birthday wishes or reminders without having to be online at the time. It’s also useful for managing communication across different time zones so messages reach the recipient at the right hour.
This is part of Instagram’s efforts to improve its DM features. Over the past few weeks, the platform has rolled out features like customized names, and live location sharing. Creators now have better message request management tools. They can sort incoming requests by follower count, verified status, and more so you can prioritize important conversations.
Along with scheduled DMs, Instagram has also launched other features to celebrate the holidays and the New Year. One of which is a new collage tool for Stories with end-of-year themes so you can share your favorite 2024 memories. Instagram also adds several custom Add Yours templates, including one where you can prompt friends to share photos in a “How 2024 Started / How 2024 Ended” style.
